We all make them. Some are embarassing. Some are pretty awful. Mistakes are typically seen in such a negative light and I am here to set the record straight. Mistakes mean progress!
When you own a small business, you will take risks. There is a LOT of trial and error in finding the correct business practices you want to enact. Sometimes these lead to mistakes. I myself have made countless in my 6 years of photography. But every single time I make a mistake lately, I remember the Pixar President Ed Catmull quote that I heard on the radio: “Mistakes aren’t a necessary evil. They aren’t evil at all. They are an inevitable consequence of something new.”
Mistakes mean progress.
Y’all, learning from your mistakes is vital. Think about what you didn’t do right and try again. Admit the it actually happened. While mistakes are just an inevitable part of life, if you can learn from your most recent ones, you’ll also be able to learn from any future ones. The value is immeasureable.
Progress is rarely a linear process. There are ups and downs, success and failures, and mistakes. But all of that is part of the package when you are a small business owner. It is how you handle the mistakes and treat them that speaks volume.
Mistakes aren’t a necessary evil but they are necessary.
